My interest in psychology started in childhood with a constant curiosity into why people behave the way that they do. When I became a senior manager in the education sector, nearly twenty years ago, I started studying management from a psychological perspective as it supported a much more humanistic view of management in areas such as individual differences, team dynamics and motivational theories. All of which made more sense in how you achieve sustainable business growth and success. I qualified in human psychology in 2012 whilst continuing to work in education and then in 2018 I decided to retrain as a counselling psychologist and qualified in 2023.
I value compassion, respect, and integrity and the ability for all of us to continually learn and grow. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for my clients and to treat each individual with dignity. I am aware of the power imbalance within the counselling room and therefore do not take an 'expert' stance, work collaboratively with a client and acknowledge difference. I retain an ethical approach and I am continually updating my skills to ensure best practice.
I am someone who has lived in rural communities since I was a child and understand both the beauty and everyday difficulties that this can bring to some people. I am passionate about social justice and have worked across Gwynedd and Môn as a Community Mental Health Advocate supporting others to have their voice heard, I love spending time in the outdoors with my dogs and being in front of the fire with my cats. I value time with my ever extending family and friends. Watching films, reading, listening to the radio and podcasts, dancing, learning Welsh and gardening are the every day pleasures that keep me grounded!
